Everyone's talking about Omicron...

But did you know that stars share the same designation? The brightest star in the constellation is Alpha, and so on...Well, I was outside the other night, sneaking a quick look at the southern winter milky way, coughing (maybe from Omicron? Nahhh), and found this orange gem of a star. It's a great binocular target, blazing like a wayward ember in the snow of the white stars surrounding it. Heading back inside, I looked it up, and it's...Omicron 1 Canis Majoris.
(needs some help with its branding, especially after this latest variant...)
Check it out yourself! Here's a chart.
