Dog Days are Here

Do you hear them? On a still, stifling June morning, the first musicians of the season tune up, getting ready for July. It's the Dog Day Harvest Fly (sometimes called a "heatbug." ) Not nearly as annoying or swarming as the Brood X 17 year cicadas we had to live through, this fella, an annual cicada, hangs out in the trees, serenading us with an occasional tune. Lean out your window and take a listen! (And why are these the "Dog Days?" Sirius, the "dog star", is up in the daytime now. The ancients thought his light added to the heat of Sol.) https://bugguide.net/node/view/12461
